The joys of motherhood start with the baby shower. As special as it is to receive the news that you are expecting your first child, the real elation does not kick in until you have your baby shower. Whether it is from your family doctor or on the indicator of a pregnancy strip, that first moment has its own special feeling that stays with you for the rest of your life. There is no denying that first vital feeling. However, when you hold in your hands that first special gift that has been given to you out of sheer love and a common shared joy; that is the moment it begins to move from the surreal to the real.
The next time you are invited to a baby shower; do not just give the same old gifts that you and your friends and families give over and over again. If you are creative enough, you can come up with something really special. Give something that no one else gives and you will definitely become the number one choice when it comes to the baby shower guest list for all of your soon to be expecting friends and family members.
How to Make Your own Party Bags
If you are throwing a baby shower for a friend, another way to show just how much you care and to be chosen as the baby shower queen is to make baby shower party bags for the new mother and all of the guests. You can make a great bag with gift-wrapping paper, Elmer’s glue, a pair of paper scissors, and a Hole Punch. If you do not have wrapping paper on hand, you can use printer paper to make bags with wonderful images or pictures. It is easy to do. You will need four pieces of printer paper. Print out designs on all four pages. I like to print two pages of one design and two pages of another. Now follow these instructions for great homemade party bags.
1. Print two pages of paper with designs covering the entire page on one side.
2. Lay the two pages of paper on a flat surface with the printed side down to form one long page that overlaps one inch in the middle. Glue them together at the overlap and let dry.
3. Repeat the process in steps 1 and 2 except with a different pattern. You now have two long pieces of paper made from four standard sized papers.
4. Lay the paper one on top of the other to form a plus sign (+). Add four drops of glue between them in each corner. Allow to drive for five minutes.
5. Cut one inch slits on the bottom piece of patterned paper on all four sides directly along the edge of the paper lying on top. Use the top paper as a guide to cut the slits straight. The depth of the slit decides the width of the bag. One inch is about right.
6. Fold and crease all four sides so that they form a box or bag. To do this, fold the bottom paper first and make your crease on the edges of the top piece of paper in the same way you used it to pattern you slits. Then fold the top piece even with the bottom of your bag.
7. Fold the flaps made with the four one-inch slits and glue the flaps to the uncut top piece. This will solidify the sides of the bag.
8. Trim away excess paper so that all four top edges are of equal length and there is no over lap in the middle.
9. Using a paper hole punch, cut two holes three inches apart on opposite sides of the bag. You only have to do this to two sides.
10. Run your yarn through the holes and tie a big knot on the inside ends so the yarn cannot pull through.
You now know how to make have beautiful, homemade gift party bags with the design of your choice! Fill your bags with candles, candies, and small items to give to the baby shower guests.
Doing it Yourself Shows How Much You Care
One great idea for your next baby shower is to put together gift baby baskets that will blow everyone else’s gifts away. Start with a small bassinette. If you cannot find one that is unique, try to find one that has a smooth surface as opposed to the usual basket weave baskets. On the sides of this smooth baby bassinette, stencil in wise quotes about life, love, and childhood. If you know the mother-to-be has an affinity for butterflies, unicorns, or some other cute item like dragonflies, download and stencil those on the sides to make it more personal for her and her new baby. Now fill your gift baby baskets with smaller items that you know all mothers will need for baby.
Learn to Crochet
When you have your baby basket decorated and filled with baby bottles, diapers, rattles, and other baby needs, cover the basket with a beautiful baby blanket. If you really want to make this a one of a kind gift, learn to crochet and make a baby blanket with your own hands. Crocheting is easy to learn, easy to do, and sends a message that you love the recipient enough to put in that kind of dedicated work. Find or make your baby blanket to match the baby basket. If you have adorned the basket or bassinette with dragonflies, crochet a big dragonfly into the center of one of your favorite embroidered baby blankets.
